Standards and Quality Committee

Mission

This committee will develop standards for Process Technology education programs and support efforts to move GCPTA member colleges to those standards and beyond.

Vision

Every member college is delivering Process Technology education that meets or exceeds the standards adopted by the GCPTA as evidenced by audits and evaluations prescribed by the GCPTA.

Vision Elements

All member colleges have Advisory Committees which are actively involved in providing direction and assistance to their colleges’ programs

All member colleges have implemented a recurring program auditing process which involves their Advisory Committee members

All identified deficiencies from audits are being promptly addressed

Member colleges are delivering classroom education and laboratory activities that meet the requirements of the GCPTA/CAPT

Member colleges are using standardized evaluation methods and/or materials when developed and required by the GCPTA/CAPT

College faculty are communicating expeditiously with the GCPTA/CAPT on needed revisions of curriculum materials, in order to keep them in an evergreen state

The GCPTA Executive Committee is being kept informed about compliance with the standards by regular updates from member colleges submitted to this Committee

Current Requirements for Endorsed Colleges

Requirement 1:

Each Endorsed college will submit the following to the GCPTA Administrative Assistant as evidence of an active advisory committee:

  • Minutes of its advisory committee meetings on a continuing basis (at least four meetings per year)
  • Advisory committee member names and their contact information

(NOTE: Contact information is desired but not required if confidentiality is considered to be an issue.)

If a college is shown to not have a viable advisory committee, the Standards and Quality Committee will recommend to the GCPTA Executive Committee that that school’s Endorsed status be reviewed for possible revocation.

See handout from 2001 IPTA Conference for ideas that might help in starting or invigorating an advisory committee.

Requirement 2:

Each Endorsed college will have a well-defined and fully functioning program auditing process. Each will submit the following to the GCPTA Administrative Assistant as evidence of its auditing process:

  • A set of formal guidelines of its auditing process
  • A copy of each completed program audit

Audits will be held at least every three years or more often if dictated by the college or its advisory committee. The audit team will be comprised of a minimum of three members with each of the following three groups represented:

  • College PTEC Advisory Committee industry members who have voting rights on the GCPTA Steering Committee
  • College PTEC faculty and/or administration
  • At least one third party member recruited from the following:

        -  The Executive Director of the GCPTA

        -  Members of the Executive Committee of the GCPTA

See our Resources page for sample audit tools and other resources that might help in completing the requirements for endorsement.

Effective Date and Length of Endorsement

A college will become "Endorsed" after all proper documentation has been submitted, reviewed by the S&Q Committee, and approved by the Executive Committee.

Endorsement of a college will be for a one year period. As long as the above-listed requirements are being met, the endorsement will be renewed annually.
