Merv Treigle, Secretary, opened the meeting. Steve Ames, President, was unable to attend due to prior commitment with his company business. The participants introduced themselves.

Approval of Last Meeting Minutes – Minutes of November 19, 1999 meeting were approved January 28, 2000.
Subcommittee - Funding – Merv Treigle for Steve Ames
Colleges represented were urged to purchase and use the Course Instructor Guides and Student Workbooks developed and adopted by the GCPTA. Information on ordering these materials is on the web site

Copies of the revised By-laws were distributed to those present. A total of 24 voting members voted for the proposed changes in the GCPTA Bylaws, as presented at the November 19, 1999 meeting. The revised GCPTA Bylaws were adopted on December 28, 1999.
Subcommittee - Public Relations - Karen Baird
The next GCPTA newsletter has been put together by Jim Gardner and is ready to go to print. Celanese, Bayport, has agreed to pay for the cost of postage and the handling of the mailing. The next education Expo will be held February 11, 2000 at San Jacinto College. Students will be required to have a ticket (obtained from instructors) to enter. Student volunteers are needed from member colleges to assist with logistics of the Expo.
Texas Skills Standards Board - Cathy Williams-Foster

Education Subcommittee – Joanna Kile and Kathy Williams-Foster
Evaluation plans for the NSF Grant (due in March) and the LAAP Grant (due in April) are being developed. To date, six (6) external presentations to other interested organizations and sixteen (16) internal presentations to college advisory committees have been made. A new logo for the NSF Grant has been developed. The logo is CAPT-Center for the Advancement of Process Technology. The NSF and the Department of Education both seem pleased with our progress to date. Joanna Kile, Bill Raley, and the entire NSF team were praised for their excellent work.
Cathy gave a report outlining the contributions of the members of the Education Subcommittee.
Course Status Reports:
Distance Learning - Duncan Welder
Duncan Welder provided information on web-based courses and web-based course distribution and delivery. Anyone wanting to pilot the web-based introduction course should notify Joanna Kile immediately in order to be enrolled in an on-line course on effective web-based instruction offered through the Virtual College of Texas.
Scott Bruno reported on the Introduction to Process Technology Course being developed by TDS. The project plan, design document, and prototype are developed. Two modules have been produced and the storyboards for the remaining modules have been designed.
Financial Report – Ed Stiles
In 1999, the GCPTA received membership fees of $23,626.00 and book sales receipts of $2,627.50. Expenditures included $17,712.16 for salaries and $11,231.07 in other expenses. Balances on hand as of 12-31-99 were $2,381.34 in a checking account at Bank of America and $4,000.95 at Lee College. A more detailed report will be prepared for the March meeting.
College Advisory Committee Reports
New Business
We have contacted Coach USA and they can provide a bus to transport up to 47 people for $550 to the Lake Charles Meeting, March 31st. However, we need at least 20 or more to justify the cost. Those interested in going to the meeting this way, please contact Steve Ames at 281-834-4492 or Merv Treigle at 713-740-1995. Those utilizing this transportation will equally share the cost. We must know by February 15th in order to secure the bus reservation. The bus will depart ExxonMobil, Baytown Parking Lot at 7:00 a.m. and return by 5:00 p.m.
